INNOVATION

 Problem Worth Solving

Home: FAQ

PROBLEM

  • The intensive labour component of opening half-shell mussels and â€‹

  • Difficuilty of grading of mussels, results in over/under cooking.

  • Contamination issues.

  • Indirect and direct cost associated with opening half-shell mussels

SOLUTION

  1. The automated opening system reduces manual labour by 70%

  2. There is no need for blanching product through our system.

  3. The contamination factor will be mitigated by reduced labour openers. The other advantage yet to be quantified, is the plasma torches expels ozone, this could potentially be a real game changer in the sterilization of the machine parts and reducing listeria issues in the industry.

  4. With the reduction of labour, the costs such as health and safety, ACC, staff training, holiday pay, and sickness pay, uniform will see major cost savings.

OPPORTUNITIES

  • The technology has the potential to open other shellfish species such as the famous bluff oyster.

  • International potential

  • Automating and grading of mussels through camera vision system.
